The plastic hinge portion of my 85 E350 hinge prop broke of a tab and was at risk of being knocked out from the mounting hole while supporting the hood. I was also missing the plastic holder for the other end.
I finally found a replacement that fits and can be found at (some) retail parts stores. I checked Bumper to Bumper and O'Reilly and neither carried anything large enough. but I finally found a "Help!" kit at AutoZone in the form of Dorman 45396. The fitment guide claims it doesn't fit, but disregard that. The package I got says "Ford/GM/VW", but the website only says GM and VW. I carried in the old hinge piece and it was a direct match.
It comes with the hinge and the prop end holder. In order to install the hinge end, insert it into the mounting hole in the sheet metal first, then insert the hinge end of the prop into the hole and CAREFULLY hammer it into the plastic piece until it lines up with the catch so that it can be rotated and locked into place. The prop end holder should just press in by hand.
